The overall objective of ISCI-3 is to establish a consensus on specific simple, robust, and quantifiable protocols that can be used to assess the capacity of individual pluripotent stem cell lines (ES or iPS) to differentiate along specific lineages.
Working groups of experienced researchers with expertise relating to specific pathways of ES cell differentiation have been formed and it is expected these working groups will hold meetings between now and September to discuss methods and protocols for inducing and assessing differentiation.
The groups will then come together at a workshop to be held in September 2010 to review available methods and discuss the proposed protocols.
The agreed protocols will form the basis of a consensus set of methods that can be used to assess human ES and iPS cell pluripotency.
It is hoped this will be the start of a continual process of refinement of methodologies to assess human pluripotent stem cells.
